Kings Landing; The giant summer adventure in, Florida!!
In this weeks blog post we are jumping right into everything you need to know about Kings Landing!
We have eagerly been waiting to visit Kings Landing since we arrived full-time in Florida back in December 2020. After Six months of waiting we finally had a day that worked within our schedule to adventure there. Was it worth the wait? Um, a big loving, YES!!!
We packed-up the jeep and took off a little after sunrise, beginning our journey south-west. We had brewed coffee the night prior and baked some homemade muffins to enjoy on our two hour drive.
Let's talk location:
LOCATION
Kings Landing is located in Apopka, Florida on the Rock Springs Run, one of three main tributaries that feeds the Wekiva River Basin, a designated National Wild and Scenic River. Address: 5722 Baptist Camp Road, Apopka, FL 32712
We've added a map below to highlight its location, incase you're traveling from various parts of the state.
Kings Landing is full of adventure and fun for everyone! If it's natural wildlife your seeking or an exciting kayak / paddle board tour through what feels like the Jurassic park of Florida then you will love Kings Landing! From self-guided rentals, adventure tours and even nightly stays there is something for everyone. One major bonus for this stunning place is that you have to make a reservation; this helps and eliminates crowd control, along with the beauty of leaving no trace, preserving the river and surrounding nature, just as it should be. There are many awesome tours to choose from; such as, the Summer nights Kayak Adventure, Emerald Cut Kayak Adventure or the Eco River Adventure Shuttle Run which is a 8.5 miles downstream kayak tour. Although, if you are like us and prefer a self guided tour you can opt to kayak or paddle board and explore one mile either direction discovering the magic of Rock Spring Run. Each direction being very different to the other. The right side known as, Emerald Cut offers the crystal aqua spring water and the left side, offering a more wildlife experience in dark water. During our self guided tour we decided to paddle up stream first, against the current and experiencing the magnificent beauty of Emerald Cut. Once we reached the end of Emerald Cut we turned around and enjoyed the smooth paddle downstream enjoying the natural lazy river. Once we reach the entrance to the canal we chose to stop for lunch; a salad and some bread that we had made-up the night before. After lunch we decided to adventure down the left side of the river, but half way down decided to turn around and head back to land.
We recently started using iRocker stand-up paddle boards which we are totally obsessed with, so this trip we had our own gear. However, if you are looking to rent gear, here are the rental rates, along with the rates if you choose to bring your own vessel.
