Every year we head to the snowy mountains in upstate NY and Vermont for a few ski trips throughout January and March. This year we knew that wasn't possible, and honestly, we were really missing chilly air and high peaks surrounding us.
On a whim we decided to head to Amicalola Falls State Park. Our first time visiting North Georgia and it turned out to be a six hour drive from our house. So, we packed up the car with a few snacks, two backpacks, a sleeping bag, and a few medical essentials just incase. We love spontaneous getaways that don't break the bank.
We knew the winter season was winding down in North Georgia but when we arrived it was 23 °F which was a big shock to our Florida bodies. Lol! As we drove through the state park to reach Amicalola Lodge, which was nestled upon the very top of the mountain we were surrounded by endless views.
We booked our reservation through Hotel Tonight. A hotel company we have booked through and raved about for six years. They have incredible deals that you can snatch up last minute.
We were amazed by how beautiful Amicalola Lodge was. It's more than just a place to stay when you visit the tallest waterfall in Georgia. It has unmatched comfort, modern amenities and the great outdoors with endless trails to hike right on its doorstep. Depending on your preference you can choose between suites and rooms to cabins and campgrounds, creating a one-of-kind Georgia mountain retreat. The rooms of Amicalola Lodge offer affordable accommodations with a luxury feel. There is also a restaurant at the lodge that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. The park also features wooded tent and RV campsites for those who love sleeping under the stars.

Cabins
These hidden cabins are definitely something we will be renting in the future. They make for the perfect group getaway with family or friends and offer 1, 2 or 3 bed arrangements. All the locations of cabins are within arms reach to all the trails throughout the state park.

Adventures
Our time at Amicalola Falls State Park was short and out of season. However, we were able to get a feel of what this state parks offers during the Spring, Summer and Autumn. Right outside the lodge is the zip line adventure that glides you over the tree tops; At the bottom of the park there was archery with 3D targets; A rock climbing wall; Animal meet and greets at the visitors center; Fishing ponds and so much more.
We were grateful to experience beautiful scenic hikes to and from the falls. The plunging falls is 729 feet, ascending around 600 stairs to the top of the falls. We promise every step is worth it!
